First time meeting with a Personal Trainer at Bay Tennis and Fitness? Please fill out the Informed Consent Physical Activity Form and bring it to your first session. 30 minute, 1 hour, and group sessions available.

Personal Training at Bay Tennis & Fitness
 Your first time with one of our Nationally Certified Personal Trainers will provide:
 1. A private consultation
       -This is when we will learn about your health history and current needs
2. A physical assessment
       -Your body composition, cardiovascular ability, muscle endurance, strength, and flexibility will be evaluated
3. Goal Setting
       -Your trainer will design an individualized program to help you reach your    goals and manage your needs.
 * Personal Trainers can measure and track your fitness status as well as provide a report to highlight your progress.

* We require all of BT&F Personal Trainers to carry a current national certification.
* We require our Personal Trainers have completed an apprentice program along with job experience.
* All of our Personal Trainers must have current CPR Certification

Why meet with a Personal Trainer?

Working with a Personal Trainer assures that your needs and goals are assessed in a professional and knowledgeable manner. Working with a Personal Trainer (PT) instills accountability, goal tracking, support and motivation! Our professional staff will assist you in achieving results while respecting the pace that you and your body are comfortable with and work within those limits. 
All of our PTs are personable, experienced and an ideal resource for you. Each of our Personal Trainers is certified through at least one of five Nationally recognized organizations: ACSM, NSCA, NFPT, ACE and NCSF.
After an evaluation and consultation, your trainer will design an individualized program to help you reach your goals and manage your needs. This Functional Fitness program provides exercise training, health education and nutritional information.

What are the benefits of personal training?

Your Private Trainer will assist in setting realistic and attainable goals within a desired time frame.

SPORTS SPECIFIC TRAINING
Private Trainers can customize a program designed around your sporting needs. Excel in your sport by improving skills, speec, agility, balance and control.
SPECIAL NEEDS TRAINING
If you have health challenges such as diabetes, asthma, osteoporosis, heart disease, or post rehab., you can benefit greatly from regular activity designed to fit your special needs. (Always consult your physician before beginning any physical activity program.)

Sheena Sumner

Sheena is our Fitness Director and is passionate about empowering individuals to improve their health, build strength, and achieve lasting wellness. She holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Allied Health Science and is a Certified Personal Trainer through the NFPT. In addition to her personal training certification, Sheena has earned specialized certifications in Fitness Nutrition, Cancer Recovery, Core Training, and Endurance Training.
Her passion for fitness began through her lifelong involvement in sports. Outside the gym, she enjoys spending time on the softball field and volleyball court. Sheena's training philosophy focuses on age-appropriate programming that promotes cardiovascular health, strength development, balance, flexibility, and overall wellness.
As a mother of six, Sheena understands firsthand the challenges of maintaining a healthy lifestyle while balancing family and personal responsibilities. Through her own fitness journey, she has experienced the transformative power of exercise and is passionate about helping others discover the same benefits. Above all, she is committed to creating a positive and supportive environment where clients can build confidence, improve their health, and achieve their fitness goals.

Brian Cooper

Brian has an extensive background in human anatomy and physiology obtained through his experience at LSSU & NMU. His work includes a variety of populations such as orthopedic patients in a physical therapy office, cardiac rehabilitation at the War Memorial Hospital, and as a Strength and Conditioning Coach at the collegiate level. Brian has enjoyed Division 1 Men's ICC Hockey for LSSU and spends free time playing golf, skiing, and playing soccer. His credentials include: CrossFit Cert: Level 1, MS Exercise Science, NSCA Cert. Strength and Condition Specialist.

Barbara Wilson

Barbara is a fitness professional with 45 years of experience helping people become stronger, healthier, and more confident. Originally from Grand Rapids, Michigan, Barbara began her career as an aerobic dance instructor and went on to own two successful fitness studios, The Busybody and Unique Physiques.
Her certifications include AFPA Personal Trainer, Stott Pilates Instructor, Spinning/Cycling Instructor, and Reebok Core Trainer. Throughout her career, she has taught everything from aerobics, step aerobics, kickboxing, and strength training to Pilates and indoor cycling.
Since moving to Harbor Springs in 1999, Barbara has become a familiar face in the local fitness community and has been a valued member of Bay Tennis & Fitness for over 20 years. An avid cyclist, she especially enjoys teaching Spinning classes, while Pilates remains her specialty.
For Barbara, the greatest reward is helping clients overcome physical and mental challenges, empowering them to live healthier, stronger, and more active lives.

Christie Rook

Christie is a NASM Certified Personal Trainer with a Bachelor's Degree in Exercise Science. She specializes in corrective exercise, balance training, and group fitness. Christie enjoys helping clients improve mobility, build strength, overcome limitations, and help with accountability. Additionally, she enjoys creating challenging, welcoming workouts that meet people where they are while helping them progress.
 
Christie works with clients of all ages and fitness levels, from young athletes to adults in their 70s, 80s, 90s, and beyond. Whether your goal is to get stronger, improve balance, recover from an injury, stay independent, or simply feel better in your body, she believes exercise should be personalized, effective, and enjoyable.
 
Her approach combines science-based programming, practical coaching, and plenty of encouragement to help clients move better and build strength for everyday life. She also enjoys incorporating the Power Plate as a tool to challenge balance, build strength, and add variety to training when appropriate.

Katie MacGregor

Katie is a certified Master Personal Trainer through the National Federation of Professional Trainers (NFPT). She also holds certifications in Fitness Nutrition, Endurance, Strength Training, Resistance Training, and is also certified to train clients using the Power Plate. 
Katie is passionate about helping individuals improve their strength, mobility, and overall quality of life through safe and effective exercise programs. 
Whether working with beginners, youth, older adults or experienced exercisers, Katie focuses on creating personalized fitness plans that are both achievable and sustainable for her clients. Her goal is to help her clients develop healthy habits, gain confidence, and make fitness a lasting part of their lifestyle. Katie is a fun, and energetic personal trainer who believes that fitness should be exciting and accessible to everyone. She will be right there, cheering you on and celebrating every little victory along the way.

Josephine "Joey" Johnston

Joey is a 2020 graduate of Harbor Springs High School and a certified personal trainer through the NFPT since 2022. In 2024, she earned her Bachelor’s degree in Health and Physical Education from Northern Michigan University.
Joey currently works for Harbor Springs Public Schools, where she also serves as the varsity volleyball coach in the fall and coaches the throwing events for high school track and field in the spring. During the summer, she assists the lead CrossTrain trainer, Brian Cooper, by coaching morning and evening CrossTrain classes.
Passionate about health, fitness, and education, Joey is dedicated to helping individuals of all ages build healthier lifestyles and reach their fitness goals.

Tara Guthrie

Tara “Sparkles” is an Illinois girl who has lived in Michigan since 2004. She earned a B. A in Political Science from Western Illinois University. She was in competitive sports and active all through elementary, high school, and college. After working in government, nonprofits, and corporate hospitality and setting roots in Harbor Springs in 2013 and joining BTF as a member, she found a passion for personal training and group fitness classes. She obtained her certification through NFPT and specializes in sports training, group training, HIIT classes, completed Spinning certification, and has been a Run Coach through Girls on the Run. 
She loves to motivate, encourage, and cheerlead her clients to hit their SMART fitness goals and incorporate a healthy living perspective into their everyday lives. She finds great reward in giving clients the tools and resources to be able to put in the work and reap the benefits of a job well done. 
Fun facts about Tara. She started running in 2011 and has completed 3 full Chicago Marathons, many Half Marathons including 2 Disney Princess Half Marathons dressed as Cinderella, Elsa and Olaf, and has been featured as part of a national running group on the Today Show. She loves the Harbor Springs community and her BTF Family, and according to her other half, Armen, she is the “best sous chef in the game”.
