Bay Tennis and Fitness Standard Group Fitness Class Descriptions:
Core Barre Fusion: Providing survival skills for the real world. Improve overall body awareness, endurance, and strength. This one hour class includes work for balance, strength, improved flexibility, and an overall tuneup.
Definitions: Challenge yourself beyond traditional strength training with this total body functional training class. We’ll challenge your muscular strength and endurance as well as balance and coordination by moving through all planes of movement with multi-joint and compound exercises. (1 hour class)
Pilates on the Ball: Possibly the best single piece of equipment for overall muscular conditioning, use of the Body Ball is the focus of this program. Give this class a try and you will soon find that the Body Ball is not an oversized beach ball. (1 hour class)
Spinning®: It’s all about the bike baby! Armstrong, Lemond, Indurian and YOU. Jump on and spin those pedals like never before. RIDE AT YOUR OWN PACE! Enjoy the music, camaraderie & spandex. All ability levels participate in this outstanding class. If you are a first timer please arrive 15min early to get fit to a bike! (1 hour class)
Tabata Training: (HIIT)High intensity interval training that mixes eight rounds of exercises, 20 seconds on 10 seconds off for four minutes. This program will increase your strength, stamina, and cardio health. 1 hour class (Modifications available)
T’N’T (Tight ‘N’ Toned): For that long and toned appearance, this class is designed to strengthen your arms and legs, tighten your abs, and lift your booty. 1 Hour for men and women of all levels.
Barb Wilson is a gentle and powerful motivator. She knows her stuff (she has been instructing for over 30 years). This grandma has power. Her experience as a cheer leading instructor (as in, taught the coaches) along with an ear for music makes her queuing flawless when leading her classes. Barb currently teaches a variety of classes including: Spin, Definitions, and Pilates on the Ball.
Sheena Sumner will get you pumped up and going strong. She has taken over our Monday T'N'T and Wednesday Tabata classes, and boy does she keep you moving. Her class is a real HIIT!
Margaret Tvedten operated, and taught at BODYFIRM Total Fitness for 28 years in the Harbor Springs-Petoskey area. She was voted, "Best Fitness Teacher" in Northern Michigan twice by Northern Express, a publication based out of Traverse City. She currently teaches Core Barre Fusion and Pump It Up. Core Fusion is a Barre based class that incorporates body balance and core movements to get you strong. Pump It Up is cardio to get you going and set the "tone" for your day.
Shelly Ottimer started her love affair with group exercise when she attended a Jacki Sorensen class in the early 1980s. She's been hooked ever since. She became a certified Jacki Sorensen instructor in 1982 and led classes in Petoskey for five years. In 1988, she began teaching classes for Body Firm and now she's here at Bay Tennis & Fitness. She's an ACE (American Council on Exercise) certified Group Fitness Instructor and has attended lots of seminars and workshops throughout the years. Come check out her Cardio Sculpt class and put yourself to the test.
Kimberly Dowd has always been a health and fitness geek. Her background includes teaching aerobics as a side hustle, competing in running and triathlons, and practicing clinical massage therapy, all atop being a CPA. These days you can find her skiing off-piste, hiking with her dogs, and teaching fitness and yoga.
