Tennis Center
Tennis is a year-round activity at Bay Tennis & Fitness. We are equipped with 5 Deco-turf indoor courts, the official surface of the U.S. Open, and 4 Har-Tru outdoor courts (it’s not a good day ‘til you’ve played on clay). Our tennis professionals provide lessons, clinics and work-shops all 12 months of the year.

Tennis Programs - Adults
Men’s Leagues | Women’s Leagues | Mixed Leagues | Master’s Play
Doubles Drill: This clinic will focus on Doubles only. Players will learn specific strokes, stratgies and practices that will make them better doubles players. Drills that will not only give you a workout but help you to become a doubles power-house! - Thurs. 11am-12pm
Singles Drill: This is a fund drill to work on your singles game and all-around consistency. If you are a doubles player this drill can also help your return game and help you put away volleys. Great workout!!! Tues. 10-11 am
Weekend Workout Drill: This is fun competitive drill where you will learn specific skills that will help you become a more competitive player. Drills and competitive games and in-play situations to go along with your workout. Sat. 10:15-11:15am
Ball Machine Drills: Drills, drills drills! We will use our state of the art ball machine to show you every inch of the court. You will hit a lot of balls using forehands, backhands and volleys. It's a lot of fun and a great workout. Mon., Weds. & Fri. 10-11am & Wed. 7pm
Weeknight Workout: This fun workout will focus on your all aspects game. This drill will give you a workout and also allow you to work on competitive aspects of the game. You will hit a lot of balls and participate in drills that will help you improve your doubles game. Competitive games and match situations. This drill is like our very popular weekend workout!! Weds. 6-7pm
Weekend Cardio Tennis: Cardio Tennis is a way to play if you don't play. You will hit tennis balls, but it's all about the workout. Music is jamming while you burn calories and get to practice your shots. You do not need to know how to play, just come and try it! It's fun - it's a workout and it's the hottest thing in the country! Sign up is required for this clinic and there is a (4) person minimum, so sign up with a friend and have some fun! Sat. 11:15am-12:15pm
Evening Cardio Tennis: This new cardio time is for the person who wants to workout after work! Let the music pump you up and have a great time while you hit lots of tennis balls. Sign up is required and we need a (4) person minimum to hold class. Sign-up with a friend! Mon.6:30-7:30pm
Lunch Cardio Tennis: Take a break from the hectic day and come join us as we burn calories, listen to fun, energizing music and hit lots of tennis balls! You will have energy to spare for the rest of your day! Registration is required and we need (4) players minimum to hold class. Weds. Noon-1pm
Tennis Programs - Juniors
Tiny Tots (4-5 yrs):
Start learning this lifelong activity early. This program is an introduction to Tennis for the young child. Focuses on basic strokes taught in a playful and fun way. They will love it!
Hot Shots (6-7 yrs):
The next step for your young player. Continued work on the basic strokes, keeping score, tennis-play drills, games and competitions.
Big Shots (8-9 yrs):
A great way to introduce the Grade Schooler to the game of Tennis. Stroke work and drills to improve their play, plus Fun, Creative and Challenging games that put it all together.
Future Stars (10-12 yrs):
All tennis strokes - including serving, technique drills, live play and competitive matches.
Players I High School Clinic:
For the middle and high school aged player who is learning the game. This clinic will help them move to the next level. Involves all aspects of the game.
Players II High School Clinic:
For the strong high school and tournament player who are competitive on their team. High levels of play, drills plus game and match situations. Bring your "A" game.
Sunday Night HS Elite Drill: The top junior players from our area slugging it out for two hours. Drills, competitive game situation and match play. Seriously Fun Tennis!! Pay per Drill.
Meet Our Tennis Professionals
Doug Dickinson – Director of Tennis
A native and graduate of Harbor Springs High School, Doug earned 5 All-State letters (3 Tennis, 1 Football, and 1 Basketball). He went on to play Division I Tennis at Bowling Green State University (Ohio) where he was Captain, MVP and earned All-MAC honors.
Since graduating from Bowling Green, Doug has been successful as a Tennis Professional. He has instructed students at all levels, from beginning juniors to professionals. Doug was Head Professional at Highland Park Racquet Club in Birmingham, Alabama while coaching at Samford University in Birmingham. He then took on Head Professional responsibilities at St. Marlo Country Club in Atlanta before moving back to Michigan. Doug’s vast experience was then utilized at the Homestead Resort in Glen Arbor, Michigan as the Director of Tennis.
Doug is a certified Tennis Professional by both the USPTA and the USPTR.
Doug’s knowledge of tennis, coaching experience and program development skills bring life to the courts of Bay Tennis & Fitness.
Denny Green - Assistant Tennis Professional
Denny has been a resident of Harbor Springs since 1997. He has coached the Harbor Springs Boy’s Tennis Team for the last nine years, and the Girl’s team for the last 3 years. During this time his successful teaching and coaching style has earned 3 Regional Championships and 7 State Final appearances. In addition to his coaching, Denny has also been teaching at the Wequestonsing Tennis Association since 1999.
Denny is a USPTA Certified Teaching Professional and member of the United States Racquet Stringer’s Association. Along with these qualifications he also brings vast knowledge in sporting goods and equipment, perfect for the Bay Tennis & Fitness Pro Shop.
Denny’s teaching and coaching style are suited for beginners and experienced players alike.
